Military No-Fee Passports February 21, 2013 By: Mrs B comment After hearing horror stories from fellow spouses as to how hard and how long it took to get their Military No-Fee Passports I can’t say I was super excited to tackle the process. Passport renewal applicants need to bring Form DS-82, their old US passport, expired for no more than five years, a passport-sized photo taken within the last few months, and payment. Next to checking your passport’s expiration date and getting a passport photo, filling out Form DS-82 and making an appointment at a regional passport center agency are probably the most time consuming tasks for a passport renewal.
Step 2Contact your respective travel offices to obtain more information on where to apply. If you are in the military, contact your Installation Travel Office. If you are employed by a federal government agency, contact your agency headquarters travel office. If you are in the Peace Corps, contact your travel office.
If you are in the Department of State Personnel, contact your bureau executive office or personnel technician. Any individuals eligible for a no-fee passport that do not fall into these categories should contact your local congressional representative or send an email to [email protected]. Step 3Follow the passport directions issued by your respective office. Each office will determine the best possible way to issue a passport. Many offices will require you to send the application to them and will handle it from there.
Others will require you to take your passport to a Passport Acceptance Facility. If you are required to submit a passport application to the Passport Acceptance Facility, include the DS-11 Form, proof of identification, proof of citizenship and one passport-approved photograph. If this is the case, you may be required to pay the execution fee by the facility, but you will not be required to pay the passport fee.
